Perustuuko tämä hänen tietoihinsa siitä mitä johtavat kokoomuspoliitikot pääkaupunkiseudulla ja valtakunnan tasolla suunnittelevat silmälläpitäen huhtikuun hallitusneuvotteluja? METROPOLIKOLOSSIPääkaupunkiseudun kaupunkien yhdistäminen ei ole ratkaisu ongelmiin jotka liittyvät maankäyttöön, asuntorakentamiseen ja liikenteen kehittämiseen. Monoliittinen Metropolikaupunki synnyttäisi lisäksi uusi ongelmia. Se loisi lisää byrokratiaa, vaikeuttaisi kunnallisten peruspalvelujen asukaslähtöistä toteuttamista ja väestön tarpeisiin perustuvaa kehittämistä. Edelleen se lisäisi epätasa-arvoa Metropolin eri alueiden välillä, jolloin riski ”ghettojen” syntymisestä kasvaa. KEVYEMPI JA TEHOKKAAMPI VERKOSTOMAINEN YHTEISTYÖ Itsenäiset kaupungit voivat sen sijaan kehittää modernia yhteistyöverkostoa, joka antaa etuja paremman tehokkuuden ja terävämmän kilpailukyvyn muodossa, minkä koko Uusimaa tarvitsee omalta ”Metropolialueeltaan”. Tällä tavoin voimme myös turvata hyvinvoinnin, joka osaltaan on edellytys kilpailukyvylle, myös kansainvälisesti. Käytännössä tämä tarkoittaa, että jatkamme jo olemassa olevien yhteistyömuotojen kehittämistä liikenteen (HSL), ympäristöpalvelujen (HSY) ja koulutuksen (esim. ammattikorkeakoulut) aloilla. Maankäytön ja asuinrakentamisen suunnittelun osalta tarvitaan kaupunkien ja kuntien välistä nykyistä sitovampaa yhteistyötä. Kaikki edellä mainitut toiminnot voisivat tasavertaisesti kuulua uuteen ”Uudenmaan liittoon”, jolla olisi nykyistä laajempi päätösvalta. Myös erikoissairaanhoito sopisi tähän kokonaisuuteen, jota varten ei tarvita uutta byrokratia eikä uusia virkoja. Nyt on tärkeää keskustella miten demokraattinen päätösvalta toteutetaan tässä alueellisessa yhteistyöorganisaatiossa; kansanvaaleilla valitun alueparlamentin vai kaupunkien valtuustojen siihen nimeämien edustajien kautta. Uskon suoralla kansanvaalilla valittavan alueparlamentin paremmuuteen, koska se lisäisi uusmaalaisten yhteenkuuluvuuden tunnetta ja vahvistaisi uusmaalaista identiteettiä. Kansanedustajat päättävät vaalien jälkeen pääkaupunkiseudun kaupunkien kohtalosta. Ratkaisu vaikuttaa koko Uudenmaan kehitykseen.
